Digital Coupon Software: The Features That Matter

Paper vouchers get printed, forgotten, and occasionally photocopied. The move to wallet offers is not really about saving paper — it is about knowing which offer worked, and being able to stop one that is not working.
What paper could never tell you
A printed voucher is a one-way message. You know how many you produced and roughly how many came back. You do not know who redeemed, where, when, or whether the same person did it four times.
The economics are worse than they look: print and distribution costs are sunk before a single redemption, and a badly performing offer runs to the end of its print run regardless.
Features worth insisting on
- Single-use enforcement. Redemption marked against the record, so the second attempt fails.
- Expiry that is real — enforced at scan time, not printed and hoped for.
- Live editing. Change the offer on issued coupons rather than reissuing them.
- Segmentation from your own data, so the offer matches the customer's history.
- Location triggers — surfacing the offer near the store.
- Redemption analytics by store, hour and segment.
- A kill switch. If an offer is being abused, you need it stopped in seconds.

The transition from paper, done sensibly
Run both for one campaign. Same barcode on the printed version and the wallet version, so the till does not care which arrives. Compare redemption rates, then decide with evidence rather than instinct.
Most teams find the wallet version redeems better for a reason that has nothing to do with technology: it is present at the moment of decision, and it cannot be left at home.

Where the offer should come from
If your purchase history lives in Salesforce, the offer should be generated from it — a lapse-risk segment, a birthday, a category someone browses but never buys. Kemicard renders the coupon from that record and writes the redemption back, so the next campaign is better targeted than the last. See coupons and vouchers and the Apple Wallet coupons guide.
FAQ
- Can we stop an offer mid-campaign? Yes — expire it centrally and it fails at the next scan.
- What stops screenshots? Scan-time validation. A screenshot cannot be marked redeemed, and shows nothing when the record changes.
- Do we need new till hardware? Usually not — existing barcode scanners read wallet codes.
