Digital Business Cards, CLE Passes, and Membership Cards for Law Firms Running Salesforce

Kemicard builds each pass from the Salesforce record behind it. Attorney details, bar admissions, event registrations, and membership status map to fields the firm already maintains.

One Salesforce Org Sits Behind Every Pass the Firm Puts on a Phone

Different teams issue different passes. Marketing owns attorney cards, the events team owns CLE check-in, and both work from templates in the same org.

Attorney Digital Business Cards

Name, practice area, direct line, and bar admissions render from the attorney's record. A change of title or office updates the card without a reprint order.

CLE Session Passes

Registered attendees receive a pass scanned at the door of each accredited session, which produces the attendance record credit reporting depends on.

Firm and Bar Membership Cards

Membership standing, admission year, and renewal date are rendered on a card issued from the membership record.

Firm Alumni Cards

Departing attorneys who join the alumni network keep a card carrying their years of service and alumni standing, which supports referral relationships after they leave.

The Card Handed Over at a Conference Rarely Becomes a Matter

A paper card depends on the recipient choosing to act. They keep it, they remember why they kept it, and at some point they type it into something. Most of the time none of that happens, and the firm never learns which conferences were worth attending.

A scanned digital card closes the loop at the moment of the exchange. The contact reaches the CRM immediately, attributed to the fee earner and the event, and a follow-up can be triggered while the conversation is still recent.

That attribution is the part managing partners tend to care about most. Business development spend at conferences is significant and almost entirely unmeasured; scan counts and downstream conversions turn it into something a committee can actually discuss.

One Template Keeps Every Attorney Card Consistent Across Offices

The template is defined once and applied to every attorney record. Office address, practice group, and bar admissions vary by person, while layout and brand elements stay fixed.

  • Practice Group and Office Variants From One Template. Group name, office address, and switchboard render from the attorney record, so a firm with offices in several jurisdictions maintains one template rather than one per location.
  • Titles Controlled Centrally. Partner, associate, and of counsel designations come from the personnel record, so nobody self-describes on a card the firm issues.
  • Credentials and Post-Nominals Rendered From Fields. Degrees, certifications, and honorifics are field values, which keeps formatting consistent instead of varying with whoever typed the last print order.
  • Rebrands Reach the Issued Base. A logo or brand change is applied to the template, and cards already held reflect the update without a reissue programme.
  • Issued Cards Reported in Salesforce. Which attorneys hold a current card, and when each was last updated, is reportable alongside every other record in the org.
Brand and compliance

One Firm, One Standard, Centrally Controlled

  • Templates the firm owns. Marketing sets the layout, the colours and the disclaimer wording once; every fee earner's card inherits it.
  • Titles that stay accurate. An associate making partner is a field change on a record, reflected on the card the same day — including on cards already shared.
  • Departures handled properly. When someone leaves, their card is revoked centrally. Paper cards already in circulation cannot be recalled; a pass can.
  • Practice-area variants. A corporate card can link to recent transactional publications while a personal injury card links to a case evaluation form, without leaving the firm template.
  • Nothing to install. A recipient adds the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. No app download, which is where most digital card schemes lose people.

CLE Attendance Tracking Runs From the Same Salesforce Org as the Registration

Registration and attendance are two states of the same record. A registrant receives a pass, the scan at the door updates that record, and no list moves between systems in between.

Per Session Check-In Across a Multi-Track Program

Each accredited session is scanned separately, so an attendee moving between tracks produces a distinct attendance record for every session rather than one record for the day.

Check-Out Captured Where Duration Matters

A second scan on the way out records departure time, which supports jurisdictions that require full attendance for the credit to count.\

Separate Credit Types for Non-Attorney Attendees

Paralegals, trainees, and staff attending the same session are tracked against their own credit categories from the attendee record.

Multi-Jurisdiction Attendees Recorded Once

Attendees admitted in different states hold one attendance record, and jurisdiction-specific reporting is handled downstream from the same data.

Timestamped Records Retained for Audit

Each scan carries session, time, and attendee, and the record persists in Salesforce for as long as the provider's retention policy requires.

Confidentiality

Client Confidentiality Is Not Negotiable

Firms are right to interrogate any new channel that touches client data. Three things are worth being precise about.

  • The pass carries what you put on it. A matter reference and a phone number are appropriate; matter detail is not. Nothing privileged needs to leave the system of record for the pass to be useful.
  • Sharing is deliberate. A card is exchanged when the holder shows a code or taps a device. There is no passive broadcast, and no directory anyone can browse.
  • It stays in your org. Kemicard is a Salesforce-native application. Client data is not copied to a third-party card service to be rendered.

Firms with data residency obligations should raise them on the first call — the answer depends on your Salesforce instance, and it is better established early than assumed.

Law Firm Membership Cards and Alumni Passes Come Out of One Record Set

The same contact carries different cards over time. An attorney record becomes an alumni record when the status changes, and the pass issued against it changes with it.

  • Status Change Swaps the Card Without a New Record. When an attorney's status moves to alumni, the attorney card retires, and the alumni pass issues against the same contact, so history stays on one record.
  • Years of Service and Practice Group Carried Forward. The alumni pass removes tenure and former practice groups from the record, which is the context a partner needs before making a referral call.
  • Alumni Now Working In-House Flagged as Client Contacts. Where a former attorney has moved to a client or a prospect, the record carries both relationships, which is where most alumni program value actually comes from.
  • Alumni Event Invitations Reach the Existing Pass. Reunions, practice group dinners, and alumni briefings are issued to the card already held, with no separate invitation list maintained outside the org.

The Back of the Card: Reachable Without a Search

The direct line, the out-of-hours number, the booking link and the practice areas — on a card the client cannot mislay between hearings.

A promotion, a new direct line or a change of office updates the field on the record, and every card already shared reflects it. Paper cards in circulation cannot be recalled; these can.

In depth

Legal, in practice

Law firms are unusual among professional services in how much of their business development runs through individual relationships rather than the firm's marketing function. That is why the paper card survived so long here: it belongs to the fee earner, not the firm. The tension is that the firm is accountable for the brand, the accuracy of the credentials and what happens to a departing partner's contacts, and a drawer full of printed cards gives it none of that.

A firm-issued wallet card resolves the tension without taking the relationship away from the fee earner. The card is theirs to share, in the moment, in the room. The template, the data and the revocation are the firm's. Both parties get the thing they actually needed.

The second use case — client-facing passes — is less common and worth considering carefully. It works well where a client has a long-running relationship and a recurring need to reach the right person quickly: a general counsel with a panel firm, a claimant through a lengthy matter, a corporate client with several concurrent instructions. It works poorly as a novelty. If the pass does not save the client a search through their email for a phone number, it is not earning its place.

Everything here runs from Salesforce. If your firm already manages contacts, matters and business development in the platform, the card renders from those records directly. See how it works, or the same pattern in real estate, where the professional-networking case is nearly identical.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Kemicard reads standard and custom objects, so a legal Salesforce CRM for law firms binds to whatever record represents the attorney, the matter contact, or the event registrant. No particular data model is required.

No. Contact details stay on record in the firm's own org, and a confidential digital business card for a law firm renders only the fields the firm maps. Nothing is contributed to a vendor's shared contact database.

No. The recipient scans or taps and receives the details through a link the firm controls, without installing anything or creating an account.

Card content comes from Salesforce fields, so wording that is regulated in particular jurisdictions is controlled centrally rather than written by each attorney. Compliance with individual state bar advertising rules remains the firm's responsibility.

The pass is tied to the record, so it can be revoked and reissued from Salesforce without waiting on the device. A replacement is added to the new phone through the same link.

Yes. Issuance runs on a condition against the record, so cards can be scoped to partners, to a practice group, or to attorneys attending a particular conference.

Only fields mapped onto a pass render to the wallet, and Salesforce remains the system of record. Kemicard operates inside Salesforce's SOC 2 Type II environment, and a Data Processing Addendum is available for procurement review.

Pricing follows the number of cards issued per year rather than the number of staff users. A firm issuing attorney cards, CLE passes, and client event tickets draws all of them from one annual allowance. [Confirm current tiers against the live pricing page.]
