Kemicard Studio: Create a Loyalty Template

The complete, screen-by-screen walkthrough of building a loyalty card template in Kemicard Studio — from New Template to a branded pass installed on iOS and Android. You will create the template record, brand the card, add a scannable barcode, and map the member fields that make each card personal.

Prefer to watch? This guide is the written transcript of the video walkthrough, step for step with the same screens: Create Loyalty Template (video).
Before you start. You need the Kemicard managed package installed and a Kemicard Configuration record for the object you are issuing from — see Installation and Getting Started. The example below issues from Contact.

Part 1 — Name the template and point it at your data

Everything on a loyalty card comes from a Salesforce record, so the first screen asks two questions: what is this template called, and which object does it read from. The Metadata Configuration field is the one to get right — it decides which record type the pass is generated from, and changing it later means remapping every field.

Part 2 — Brand the card

Colour and artwork are set before any field mapping, because the preview panel renders live and it is easier to judge a layout against the finished colours. The primary colour is entered as a hex value; the images you upload here are the logo and strip that appear on both Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.

Part 3 — Add the barcode

A loyalty card is only useful at the counter if something can scan it. Apple and Google name their formats differently, so the two are configured separately — QR for the Google pass, PK Barcode Format QR for the Apple one — and both are pointed at the same source field so a single scan resolves to a single Salesforce record.

Part 4 — Map the fields

This is the part worth slowing down for. Each slot on the card takes either a static value, which is the same on every card issued, or a field value, which is read per record. The programme name is static; the member's name, join date and expiry are not. A default value covers the case where the record has the field empty, which is what stops a card shipping with a blank line on it.

The finished pass

Saving the template makes it available to issue. This is the same template installed on an iPhone and on an Android handset — one template, both wallets, no second design to maintain. The member's name and join date are read from the Salesforce record, so when the record changes the card changes with it.

Variation — show a points balance

Loyalty programmes that run on points need one extra field, and it is worth seeing because it uses both kinds of value at once: a static label that reads the same on every card, and a value beneath it. These screens come from a second recording of the same flow, so the template name and colours differ — the mechanics are identical.

Keeping the balance current. A points total mapped to a Salesforce field updates on the card whenever that field changes — you do not reissue the pass. See Flow integration to recalculate the balance automatically, and notifications to tell the member when it moves.
